Goose delivers the 2015 Silverstone Classic Media Day

In excess of 200 media and VIP guests were in attendance for the Silverstone Classic 2015 Media Day, an annual event to launch the festival and provide strong editorial coverage in the lead up to the summer spectacular. The legendary ‘Home of British Motorsport’ will this year play host to the 25th anniversary meeting, set to be a big-banger with highlights such as 90s F1 cars from the Senna, Schumacher and Mansell era and Status Quo live on stage.

TV crews were therefore pouring over some of the most iconic cars in classic racing history as photographers were in good number to capture celebrity moments. View the coverage on ITV.

Impressive displays representing the whole event – demonstrating a key event message ‘The World’s Biggest Classic Motor Racing Festival’

The central feature was a glamorous juxtaposition between the oldest and youngest cars due to be in attendance on track at the Silverstone Classic – a 1926 Bentley 4 ½ litre and Michael Schumacher’s 1992 Benneton-Ford.

Surrounding this main feature were a selection of hand-picked silver race cars and silver classic club cars plus highly detailed examples of cars going under the hammer with Silverstone Auctions at the July event. To top it off were a McLaren F1 GTR Longtail, a Morgan Plus 8 and not one but two of Don Law Racing’s Jaguar XJ220s to represent the 90s GT Legends grid – a spectator highlight that the Silverstone Classic introduced last year.

Also well embodied were the registered car clubs that will be holding anniversary celebrations at this year’s Classic plus Pirelli Pro Rally and the Range Rover Register who provide off-road experiences to lucky festival visitors. Media Day really encompasses the whole event to give press a bite-size taster of each attraction.

Only for the most brave of media personnel…

An adrenalin filled highlight of Media Day is of course the passenger laps offered to attending media. Providing a real insight to what classic racing is all about, this really is the wow factor that creates the best reaction photos ever. Many of the media take up the opportunity for in car videos.

Furthermore, a short press conference saw Nick Wigley (CEO & Event Director), Luke Wigley (Event Manager), Simon de Mille (Communications Director) and Neil Carr-Jones (Event Manager) as well as official partners deliver breaking news on new event additions as well as expectations of record attendance figures, yet again.

Partners to the Silverstone Classic are integral to the Media Day with cars and interactive displays to build engagement with both drivers and media before the festival:

  • JET Fuel brought one of their new and very clean fuel tankers to display and provided race fuel for competitors testing.
  • Silverstone Auctions had several highly detailed examples of cars due to be included the Silverstone Classic Sale.
  • Porsche Classic had two perfect condition cars from their stock in the centre circle.
  • Maserati provided a branded safety car as will be used in July.
  • Caterham Cars offered drift experiences to media and drivers in attendance.

Circuits are not cheap to hire so doubling up with the Media Day is a testing programme offered to competitors entered into the Silverstone Classic. Cars were in no short supply with teams from every grid using the valuable time on track to build their advantage – an incredible backdrop to the Media Day.

Nick Wigley, CEO of Goose Live Events, said…

“Media Day is an incredible event and it’s not even the main festival! We encompass all aspects of the real thing though and engage the media well – this is proven in the strong editorial coverage that follows and the excitement from both photographers and TV crews as they look forward to July”
